Solar and Standard Hot Water Systems

There are four common types of Hot Water Systems that we offer:

1. Tank-On-Roof Solar Hot Water System - The most eco-friendly and energy-efficient is the Tank On Roof system. The entire system is installed on the roof of your home and uses the warmth from the sun to heat up, and gravity to disperse, your hot water. Your system will still be connected to the grid through a switch as a back-up, should your hot water needs change considerably for a period (eg. multiple guests staying with you, or very bad weather for more than 3 days straight), so you will never be without hot water; however under normal circumstances, this system will not use electricity, which will reduce your quarterly bill considerably.

2. Split-System Solar Hot Water System - The most affordable solar option is the Split System - whereby the Tank is on the ground and the panels are installed on the roof. There is a little pump which circulates the water to and from the panels and your tank. This system will still use electricity to run the pump, but the usage is minor in comparison to your classic electrical Hot Water System - 40W compared to 3600W!

3. Electrical Hot Water System with Heat Pump - This system uses air, gas and compression to warm up your water. This system is cheaper to run than a traditional electrical hot water system.

4.Traditional Electrical Hot Water System - This can be an affordable option, as the actual cost of the system and installation is often less than a solar hot water system. Be aware however that the actual cost of running an electrical hot water system can be one of the largest contributors to the cost of your quarterly electricity bill. An initial saving will quickly be outweighed by the continued costs of running a traditional hot water system.
